    Density Sensitive Valves:

    Our range of mechanically operated density sensitive valves are used worldwide in a variety of bulk storage applications to ensure medium quality and to prevent pollution in gravity fed applications (see fuel grade monitor for pump fed applications).

    We offer three main versions of the valve, the standard version which was designed for detecting a change in hydrocarbon density up to 1%; a water drain version designed for draining water from storage techs; and a chemical drain valve for aggressive mediums.

    Standard Density Sensitive Version:

    The standard version of the valve was developed with a major oil company to detect slight differences in density between aviation fuel grades. Initially used to prevent higher density aviation turbine fuel from being put into gasoline tanks and causing an engine failure, the same device can be installed in the inverted position to prevent lower density fuel being put into a tank.

    Since the initial design, the product has been used in a variety of fuel filling applications to prevent lower grade fuel being filled into storage tanks and also on skid mounted solutions as a mechanical backup to prevent incorrect medium quality passing, monitoring of an oil/water separation process or worse still an environmental incident.

    Under most conditions the valve will close before 10 litres of an incorrect medium has passed through.




    Water Drain Version:

    The Water Drain Valve was developed detect the presence of fuel when discharging water through the drain line of a fuel storage tank.

    Its float operation ensures that when you drain water built up in a tank (caused by rain or condensation) the density change from water to fuel is detected causing the valve to close, saving valuable medium from being wasted and preventing any damage to the environment through contaminated water discharge.

    Mechanical in operation with only one moving part the Water Drain Valve design enables easy installation with low maintenance costs.

    Both the cast and fabricated versions of the valve are supplied with a manual test facility to enable regular checking of the valves operation.

    Installed in an inverted position, the valve will let lower density mediums pass (below 0.90 s.g.) and shut off when water is detected. Some of the key benefits include:

    Chemical & Aggressive & Medium Version:

    This highly sensitive valve was developed for use within the chemical industry and then adapted for a number of applications where the medium is too aggressive and requires corrosion resistant materials.

    The valve has been used where gravity separation of fluids can occur in storage, in processes to ensure fluids are correctly mixed and on drain lines as a mechanical back up in reducing and preventing environmental spillages associated with other control valves in a drain line being left open or failing.

    Manufactured using PVDF and/or ABS, the valve will only pass up to 2 litres of the low density medium before shutting off. This valve is highly customisable for unique applications and other materials of construction are available should they be required.
