Density Sensitive Valves

Density Sensitive Valves  
Mechanical in operation, with a version available for both gravity fed and pumped applications, our density sensitive valves use float technology to monitor the density of fluids passing through it and shut off at a predetermined maximum or minimum density to only allow fluids with an approved density range to pass though.

Water Drain Applications

Available in stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminium, the water drain valve was designed for use on bulk storage facility drain lines and has since been fitted in the drain line of a range of applications where there is a need to drain water that has been separated from other mediums whilst preventing the possibility of discharging the other medium which can be both valuable and potentially harmful to the environment.

Fluid Differential Applications

Initially designed for use within remote airport locations to act as a mechanical backup in preventing incorrect grades of fuel being pumped into airplanes and storage tanks. If required the float can be ballasted to respond to a 1% change in density and has since been used on numerous discharge systems on board ships wastewater or fuel filtration systems and can also be used within general process industry applications to ensure fluids quality is maintained and preventing waste of valuable product.

Aggressive Fluid Applications

Using the same internal technology, AMS have manufactured density sensitive valves using PVDF body materials (others available) to enable its use with aggressive mediums within a chemical plant. This same design can be used for a range of other environmental or quality control applications where use of metals is not recommended.

Density Sensitive – Pumped Applications

Utilising the AMS manufactured range of servo valves AMS manufacture a pilot which also uses float technology to determine the difference between two fluids within applications where the medium is being pumped through the valve. This valve has been extensively used within fuel grade monitoring applications, but could also be used with other mediums if the process conditions where suitable.
